What Is Laminate Flooring?

Laminate flooring is a type of synthetic flooring made with a high-density fiberboard (HDF) core, layered with a protective wear layer, a high-resolution photographic design layer, and a stabilizing backing layer.

These layers are fused together through a lamination process, which gives laminate flooring its name.

Laminate is often seen as an innovative alternative to traditional hardwood or engineered wood flooring, offering similar aesthetics with enhanced durability and affordability.

Durable and Wear-Resistant: Stronger than real wood; withstands heavy foot traffic without fading or yellowing.

Cost-Effective: High-quality flooring at an affordable price with minimal maintenance costs.

Easy to Clean: Requires only regular sweeping and occasional damp mopping.

Water-Resistant Options Available: Some laminate floors are coated to resist moisture, preventing swelling or damage.

Anti-Termite Protection: Certain types offer built-in resistance to termite attacks for extra home protection.

Laminate flooring comes in various types based on thickness, each offering different levels of performance, durability, and feel. Here’s a quick guide:

  • 7mm Laminate Flooring
    • Thinnest and most affordable option.
    • Less detailed texture and design.
    • Reflects noise easily and requires a perfectly leveled subfloor to avoid damage.

  • 8mm Laminate Flooring
    • Offers better quality than 7mm, but still needs a smooth, level subfloor.
    • A cost-effective choice for low to medium traffic areas.

  • 10mm Laminate Flooring
    • Thicker and sturdier, with more detailed designs and natural textures.
    • Reduces noise reflection and offers a feel closer to real hardwood.

  • 12mm Laminate Flooring
    • Premium thickness for maximum durability and impact resistance.
    • Better at hiding subfloor imperfections and provides a quieter, hardwood-like walking experience.

Laminate flooring is available with enhanced features to meet different needs. Here’s a quick overview:

  • Waterproof Laminate Flooring
    • Made with a waterproof core to resist water damage completely.
    • Does not swell or blister even when fully submerged.
    • Often comes with a lifetime waterproof warranty.

  • Double Protective Laminate Flooring
    • Features two protective layers—top and bottom—for greater stability.
    • Resists expansion and contraction caused by humidity or temperature changes.
    • Offers long-term durability and structural strength.

  • Termite-Resistant Laminate Flooring
    • Uses termite-proof hardwood or synthetic resin cores.
    • Strong protective top layer prevents termite infestation and structural damage.

  • Antibacterial Laminate Flooring
    • Special top layer eliminates bacteria and germs naturally without chemical cleaners.
    • Offers deodorizing effects for a more hygienic indoor environment.
  • Living Room: Laminate flooring offers durable, hypoallergenic surfaces with a wide range of stylish designs.

  • Bedroom: It provides a warm, cozy feel underfoot and is easy to clean for a healthy environment.

  • Kitchen: Scratch- and stain-resistant, laminate flooring handles daily spills and is easy to maintain.

  • Children’s Room: Its tough, hypoallergenic surface resists stains and scratches from active play.

  • Pet Areas: Waterproof and scratch-resistant, laminate flooring is ideal for homes with pets.

  • Dining Room: Laminate adds aesthetic value, resists stains, and is an affordable alternative to wood flooring.

  • Stairs: Durable and easy to install, laminate flooring is perfect for high-traffic staircases with minimal upkeep.
  • Restaurants: Laminate flooring offers a hygienic, stain-resistant, and stylish solution for high-traffic dining areas with easy cleaning and non-slip surfaces.

  • Offices: It creates a professional look, resists scratches, stains, and moisture, and maintains cleaner indoor air compared to carpet floors.

  • Gyms: Durable and easy to clean, laminate flooring withstands heavy equipment, reduces odors, and provides a safer, slip-resistant workout environment.

  • Schools: Laminate flooring delivers a durable, stylish, and comfortable surface ideal for classrooms, cafeterias, corridors, and libraries with minimal maintenance.

  • Nurseries: It provides a hypoallergenic, easy-to-clean, and durable flooring option that supports a safe, hygienic, and child-friendly environment.

  • Elderly Care Centers: Laminate flooring creates a calm, homely setting, offering durability, easy maintenance, and slip-resistant safety for senior living spaces.
Laminate flooring typically lasts between 15 to 25 years, depending on the quality, foot traffic, and level of maintenance. Lower-grade products may last around 10 years, while high-quality, well-maintained laminate can exceed 25 years. Usage patterns and daily care play a major role in determining how long your flooring will stay in top condition.

Several factors influence how long laminate flooring will last:

  • Quality of Laminate Flooring: Choose products with a high wear rating (AC rating) and avoid low-cost, low-quality options that wear out quickly.

  • Proper Installation: Correct installation is crucial; poor workmanship can lead to early damage and reduced durability.

  • Foot Traffic Volume: High-traffic areas require higher-grade laminate flooring to withstand daily use without wearing out.

  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Avoid excessive water during cleaning; regular dry sweeping or damp mopping is enough to maintain the floor’s condition.

Proper care and cleaning play a big role in maximizing the life of laminate flooring. Here are some expert tips:

  • Use the Right Cleaning Methods: Stick to sweeping, vacuuming, or using mild cleaners recommended by the flooring manufacturer; avoid strong chemical agents.

  • Wipe Spills Immediately: Quickly clean up any liquid spills to prevent moisture from seeping into the seams and damaging the floor.

  • Deep Clean Carefully: Occasional damp mopping is fine, but avoid soaking the floor, as excess water can shorten its lifespan.

  • Avoid Cleaning Mistakes: Use soft brooms or vacuum without beater bars to protect the surface from scratches and maintain its glossy finish.
What is Vinyl Flooring?

Vinyl flooring is a type of synthetic flooring made by compressing multiple layers of man-made materials. Depending on the brand and quality, it typically consists of four to eight layers.

The base layer uses vinyl for water resistance and impact durability, helping to prevent issues like warping or cupping.
Above that, a high-density fiberglass layer is added to enhance dimensional stability.

This is followed by a high-resolution printed design layer, then protected by a clear wear layer to maintain durability and appearance.

Vinyl flooring is a popular choice for modern homes thanks to its many advantages. It is highly moisture-resistant, making it ideal for kitchens and wet areas without the risk of swelling or warping. Vinyl is also budget-friendly, offering a wide price range while requiring minimal maintenance, saving homeowners more in the long run.

In addition, vinyl flooring provides superior underfoot comfort, maintaining warmth and reducing fatigue even when standing for extended periods. It is durable and scratch-resistant, capable of lasting over 20 years, especially when reinforced with fiberglass. Lastly, vinyl helps reduce noise, absorbing footsteps and daily sounds to create a quieter, more peaceful living environment.

Vinyl flooring typically ranges from 2mm to 5mm in thickness. While thinner options like 2mm and 3mm are more affordable and suitable for low-traffic areas (such as guest rooms), they require a perfectly leveled subfloor and have lower durability.

Thicker options, such as 4mm and 5mm vinyl flooring, are more durable, offer better underfoot comfort, and are ideal for higher-traffic areas like living rooms or offices. 4mm flooring often uses a floating installation method, while 5mm flooring provides better stability, noise reduction, and long-term performance.

In short, the thicker the vinyl flooring, the better the durability, comfort, and ability to withstand daily wear and tear.

Yes, vinyl flooring is highly versatile and ideal for both residential and commercial applications.

For residential spaces, vinyl flooring is perfect for living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, laundry areas, dining rooms, stairs, and even pet-friendly homes. It offers benefits like moisture resistance, durability, underfoot comfort, noise reduction, easy maintenance, and slip resistance—making it an excellent choice for a safe, comfortable, and stylish home environment.

For commercial settings, vinyl flooring is widely used in retail stores, restaurants, offices, gyms, schools, and elderly care centers. Its high durability, affordability, easy cleaning, sound insulation, and attractive design options make it a preferred flooring solution for high-traffic and professional spaces.

Whether for home or business, vinyl flooring delivers a practical, long-lasting, and visually appealing solution across various environments.

The lifespan of vinyl flooring mainly depends on its thickness and the quality of its wear layer.

On average, thinner vinyl flooring lasts around 5 to 10 years under light foot traffic, while thicker, higher-quality vinyl flooring can last up to 25 years with proper care. Usage level also plays a major role—heavy traffic can shorten its lifespan, while regular maintenance helps extend it.

  • Quality of Vinyl Flooring:
Thicker vinyl with a strong wear layer resists scratches, dents, and heavy use better.

  • Subfloor Preparation:
A smooth, properly leveled subfloor prevents early wear and damage.

  • Foot Traffic:
High-traffic areas require thicker vinyl for longer durability; thinner vinyl suits low-traffic spaces.

  • Proper Cleaning and Care:
Gentle cleaning methods and using rugs or mats in busy areas help protect the floor’s surface.

To maximize the life of your vinyl flooring, start by choosing high-quality materials—and follow a few key care practices.

Use proper cleaning methods like regular sweeping and mopping. Avoid steam cleaners, which can damage adhesives and affect floor stability.

Protect your floors with non-staining furniture pads to prevent dents and surface wear.

Avoid strong chemical cleaners that can strip the protective layer and dull the floor’s finish over time.

Finally, ensure professional installation to prevent early damage and guarantee your flooring is properly set from the start.

Is SPC Flooring Suitable for Residential or Commercial Use?

Common areas where SPC flooring is ideal include:

  • Residential: Bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens

  • Commercial: Offices, retail shops, schools, hospitals/clinics, and gyms

Its durability, waterproof properties, and easy maintenance make it a reliable choice across various environments.

What is the difference between composite decking and wood?

The high quality composite decking boards that we offer combine the natural appearance and aesthetic appeal of wood with the durability and resilience of plastic. Wood requires continuous maintenance, is exposed to and affected by weather and environmental conditions. Composite decking on the other hand is more robust and offers excellent traction, won’t splinter or warp and doesn’t need sealing or repainting.

Our traditional composite deck boards (bambo range) are made from a single mould of wood and plastic composite material – making them a long-life alternative to timber decking. Our new generation of decking is our Co Ex composite decking (Deluxe Ranges), which is a traditional composite material with a tough polymer shell applied to its exterior. This encapsulates the product and provides a defensive barrier to offer improved performance against the elements. This product has all the great features of traditional composite decking, with the added benefits of improved stain, mould and fade resistance.
Composite decking may be more expensive to manufacture, but it’s a more sustainable solution in the mid to long term. Investing in this material means that you’ll be spared costs associated with the maintenance, repair and replacement of wood decking which is more susceptible to perish, rot, split and warp – so in the long run, you’ll be saving money.

Neowood Composite Decking is by nature strong and durable. You can expect it to last for many years with minimal upkeep. All Neowood products come with up to 25-Year Limited Warranty for residential applications and 10-years for commercial applications.

Neowood composite decking is fit for both residential and commercial use. We have been a leading composite decking for over years, supplying private homes and businesses with excellent quality solutions. We have come to understand that some products are better suited to certain environments over others. To help decide which product may be best for your upcoming decking project, please contact a member of our dedicated sales team on +6012-326 2896

We do have a showroom & warehouse based in 17 – 19, Jalan 5/1 A, Taman Industri Selesa Jaya, 43300 Balakong, Selangor Customers are welcome to visit from Monday-Friday, our opening times are between 09:00-18.00 Call us on +6012-326 2896 to arrange an appointment.

Like all wood-plastic composite materials, our decking will expand and contract in varying temperatures. The rate of expansion and contraction is dictated by the outside environment – primarily the temperature. This must be taken into account ahead of installation as this has a bearing on the “end-to-end” spacing required between boards. For more information on this aspect, please consult the elements to consider section of the online installation guide.

Our traditional composite deck boards (Bambo Series) are composed of wood fibres and recycled plastic and are uncapped, meaning they are not fully resistant to spot stains. If spillage or stain occurs, we recommend acting immediately – treating the affected area and following the steps in our care guide. Our capped composite deck boards (Deluxe Series) are wrapped in a polymer shell that forms a protective barrier around the core of the product. This provides excellent stain resistance and an easy-clean surface.

Neowood deck boards are engineered with safety in mind and we consistently try to better the slip-resistance of our composite products. The slip resistance of Neowood deck boards varies depending on the decking type and material finish that you opt for.

We are proud that our products comply with CE, ISO-9001, ISO-14001, REACH, Intertek Green Leaf Mark and WWF LCMP Silver standards. This means that all materials are sourced from responsible producers and that our products are manufactured to the highest possible quality.

Neowood decking is made from 95% recycled materials, including reclaimed wood and sawdust as well as recycled plastic. The exact material composition is 60% wood, 30% recycled HDPE and 10% chemical additives.

All of our composite decking solutions are more fade-resistant than traditional wooden decking. However, how well your deck endures mother nature depends upon what type of Neowood decking you have.Traditional composite decking will lighten-up in colour-tone, achieving their weathered colour after a period of up to 6 months. The level of fade hereafter will be minimal once the boards have reached this colour tone. Our Deluxe capped composite decking has protective shell technology which provides far superior fade and stain resistance, and in turn will not fade whatsoever.

We do not advise that you sand our capped composite deck boards (Deluxe Ranges). The protective polymer shell of the product will be damaged beyond repair if you are to do so and you shall void the product’s warranty. We do however recommend lightly sanding our traditional composite decking (Bambo Series) in order to remove stubborn, deep-set stains. Apply a 60-grit sandpaper to the direction of the grain of the board, lightly applying pressure in the affected area. As a result of the sanding, the affected area will initially appear a lighter colour tone. Rest assured this will blend-in with the colouration of the board over time as the board is exposed to UV rays.

Our entire range of composite materials are very easy to maintain. A routine clean consists of using soap, warm water and a soft-bristled brush and for a deeper clean, a jet wash can be used on your deck. We find that a twice-yearly clean is usually enough to keep your decking project looking excellent throughout the year. The weather-resistant nature of our products means that you shall never need to paint, stain or seal the boards. For more information on cleaning and care tips, please visit our care guide.
While our composite deck boards are low-maintenance, we recommend a general clean every 3-6 months to ensure your boards continue to look excellent all year round. Using a pressure washer (maximum 3100 psi) is an effective way of cleaning any surface dirt and debris from the deck boards. Using a fan attachment on the pressure washer and applying the spray a minimum of 300mm from the surface of the boards will ensure this process doesn’t damage the boards.

We strongly advise that customers avoid painting or staining any Neowood composite products. Our products are designed to be a low-maintenance alternative to timber decking and traditional staining or painting solutions that are usually used on traditional timber decking will not bond with our products. The colour consistency of our boards is such that it will stay largely consistent throughout their lifespan.

Laminate flooring can be just as tough as a hardwood floor, if not tougher. That’s because the inner core is made from high-density fibreboard that has been compressed under extreme pressure. And the surface wear layer is coated with aluminum oxide, one of the toughest coatings available.

In fact, laminate floors are preferable in residential or commercial properties with lots of foot traffic. Unlike hardwood floors, they will not scuff or start to squeak after heavy use.

The toughness of laminate floors is graded based on its Abrasion Class (AC). They are ranked from AC1 (for moderate residential use including bedrooms and closets) to AC6 (for heavy commercial applications including department stores).

According to the World Floor Covering Association, the European Producers of Laminate Flooring (EPLF) developed the AC rating system based on a series of tests, including Taber Abrasion Test, impact resistance, stain resistance, burn resistance and swelling resistance.

Laminate flooring is also fade, stain, and wear-resistant. It is uncommon for the colors of laminated floors to fade. Its surface layer is also immune to cigarette burns while permanent stains can be easily cleaned with household thinner.

Window Blinds

Blinds are one of the most popular types of window coverings for homeowners. They are easy to get used, and they give you the privacy you need while letting in just the right amount of light you want for the situation. They also come in a wide variety of styles and types so that you can have the perfect type of blinds for your style and decorating theme. Blinds are made of several different types of material, depending on the type you choose. Blinds can make a room look casual or dressy, so if you are in the market for some new window treatments and considering blinds for your window coverage, take a look at the following ten different types of blinds to help you decide which ones would work best for your home.

Venetian Blinds
These are the most popular choice of blinds due to their versatility, easy maintenance and classic blinds look. They come in a variety of materials, from aluminum to wood, and plastic. Attached by strings, these vertical slats raise up or down to open or close when you pull the string. They are easy to install on a window and are very cost-efficient for those who don’t have a big budget for window coverage. You can also get Venetians in a variety of colors, especially the aluminum or plastic ones. These are easy maintenance blinds that usually just require a little regular dusting, and sometimes a damp rag to wipe dirt or other spots off.

Vertical Blinds
These are long, individual pieces of material that hang vertically from the top of the window, towards the ground. Although you can find vertical blinds for regular-sized windows, these are the most common type of blinds found on sliding doors, or big, tall windows. By the pull of a cord, the blinds slide open to one end of the window. These too, are found in different materials, and even different patterns, to add a little personal touch to your room. Vertical blinds can also add a casual look or elegant touch to a room, depending on the color, material, and style of blinds you choose.

Pleated Blinds
Made of cloth, pleated blinds can roll up or down to the height you want and need, depending on the amount of light you want to let in. If you want it to cover the whole window, just lower the shade all the way, or leave it partway up for a half-covered look. These are highly affordable, classy, easy to install, and will give your room a very sophisticated, and modern look and feel to your room. These are commonly seen in living rooms and bedrooms and are easy to install, for those who like to do projects themselves.

Roller Blinds
Roller Blinds are known for really blocking out the light. You can find these shades in a variety of materials, and how much light you want to be blocked, will play a role in what type you buy. You can get these in semi-opaque, semi-sheer, or blackout material for complete darkness in a room. The roller blinds open and closes just the way the name describes, by rolling up or down. Choose a design style that will really work with the design theme of your room and your furniture to give your room an overall complete look. These are shades that are known to really warm up a room, so if stylish and easy to use and install are what you are looking for, roller blinds might work in your home.

Roman Blinds
Roman blinds open in a stacked-type feature that almost looks puckered. They are smooth and straight when they are closed, and these are one of the more classy and elegant types of blinds you’ll find. You simply pull the cord and watch the bottom of the blind begin to lift, and stop when you have adjusted the right amount of light in the room. This type of blind gives good window coverage and can help keep a lot of light out when letting out all the way out.

Honeycomb Blinds
Honeycomb Blinds not only help to keep sunlight out, but they can also help to keep the room warm by adding a bit of insulation to the window. These are known for helping homeowners to cut down on their electric bill. The honeycombs are also referred to as cellular shades. You can find these in two basic types of material, the paper or cloth shades, as well as a variety of types of the cell so that you can choose the best ones for your home, your style, and needs.

Outdoor Blinds
The outdoor blinds work on outdoor windows that are continuously exposed to high, heavy heat and weather elements through the years. These are heavy-duty blinds and are made of durable materials to last over time, no matter what they endure. These blinds will help to protect your home from harsh sunlight, even rain, from getting in and damaging the interior of your home. Despite the retractable blinds’ big protection, these are actually quite thin, which is why they give your home a classy appearance and will help to enhance the look of your outdoor living space.

Zebra Blinds
The Zebra blinds are uniquely innovated to help you in a couple of areas, one is to give your home a beautiful, modern look. The other is to help block out light that filters in through a lot of other blinds’ fabric. These use a different method of blocking out light by the use of a zebra-like pattern of overlapping layers of fabric. You will be able to choose from a variety of colors and patterns so that you can match your style and tastes.

Composite Wood Decking

Composite decking from Get A Floor is one of the fastest-growing home improvement products. There are many advantages of composite decking that are making it a great option for many homes.

Low maintenance
Traditional timber decking requires staining or painting to protect it from the elements. One of the advantages of composite decking is that as soon as it’s fitted it’s ready to use. There’s no need to apply a protective coating to your decking as it’s already protected from the elements. Composite decking makes the annual chore of scrubbing and recoating your deck a thing of the past. As soon as Composite decking is fitted you can entertain guests, have barbecues or relax in your hot tub. It’s also as quick and easy to install as timber.

More Cost-Effective
Over time, wooden decking can lose its color. It also needs frequent maintenance and some boards may have to be replaced due to warping and splitting. All of this mounts up, costing more time and money. Composite decking is cheaper in the long term as it doesn’t require staining and has added strength for protection against fading, splitting, and warping. Once it’s installed our Composite Wood decking is guaranteed to last for at least 25 years (depending specifications you choose) so you can focus on the important stuff like enjoying your garden.

Safe
Another one of the advantages of composite decking is its safety features. Our Composite Wood decking and fencing are splinter-free making it safer, which is ideal if you have your own hot tub or pool. It’s also perfect for children’s paddling pools. Our decking is also completely slip-resistant so you can still safely use your new garden space when it’s wet. Traditional timber can become moldy, which will affect its strength and make it incredibly slippery. To combat this our composite decking is built with added protection to make it resistant to mold and algae. It requires no additional chemicals or maintenance to keep it looking great.

Neat and Clean Finish
Our Composite Wood comes with our clever concealed joining system which ensures there are no exposed nails or bolts. The system makes it quick and easy to install your new decking, creating clean precise lines in your garden.

Colour and Durability
Timber decking requires frequent staining to keep its color. That’s not the case with composite decking, which has added protection from UV rays preventing it from fading. Our Composite Wood decking comes in 5 unique color options to match the style of your garden. Each design has improved color stabilizers to ensure your new decking won’t fade from exposure to the sun and will continue to look great for years to come.

Sustainable
Thanks to a durable structure and design Composite Wood decking will last a lot longer than timber decking and still look great. With our composite decking, we only use wood sourced from timber mills and workshops, which means they are natural and haven’t been strained.
